Pushing Greener Initiatives: No Plastic Bag Every Saturday At All Johor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka And Perak Outlets

AEON CO. (M) BHD will implement the fourth phase of the ‘No Plastic Bag Day Every Saturday’ campaign at all JUSCO Store outlets in Johor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Perak effective 2 October 2010 in its continuous effort towards saving the environment.
The first, second and third phase of the ‘No Plastic Bag Day Every Saturday’ has been implemented at all AEON outlets in Penang, Selangor and Kuala Lumpur respectively. AEON’s objective is to decrease 15 million to 20 million plastic bags this year with the implementation imposed on all stores nationwide.
Mr. Nagahisa Oyama, the Managing Director of AEON CO. (M) BHD said, “Most of the plastic shopping bags handed out every day to shoppers across the country end up as garbage. Plastic waste poses a threat to the environment and public health. Taking thousand of years to disintegrate, plastic gradually release toxins into soil and bodies of water that can harm our health.”
“For the sake of our future generations, we must teach by example by continually maintaining the delicate balance between development and ecology. AEON has a duty to protect the environment and we call this our corporate social responsibility,” he added.
A fee of RM0.20 will be charged to customers requesting for plastic bags during ‘No Plastic Bag Day Every Saturday’. The fee is hoped to serve as a deterrent to shoppers to reduce the usage of plastic bags. Proceeds charged on the plastic bags will go to the Green Fund which supports all AEON’s environmental and corporate social responsibility activities.
The ‘No Plastic Bag Day Every Saturday’ campaign has reached JUSCO Queensbay and JUSCO Seberang Prai City in Penang in the first phase, JUSCO Bukit Tinggi, JUSCO Bandar Baru Klang, JUSCO Bandar Puchong, JUSCO Cheras Selatan, JUSCO Mahkota Cheras, JUSCO Bandar Utama, JUSCO Taman Equine, JUSCO Bandar Sunway, MaxValu Damansara Damai, MaxValu Kota Kemuning and MaxValu Ampang in Selangor for its second phase and JUSCO Taman Maluri, JUSCO Wangsa Maju, JUSCO Midvalley, JUSCO Metro Prima, AEON AU2, Setiawangsa and MaxValu Desa Park City in Kuala Lumpur for its third phase. It will now continue at Johor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Perak outlets.
AEON is renowned for its support towards preserving the environment. The company has organised numerous relevant activities and events in support of creating a greener future such as tree planting, energy saving exercise and Community Recycling Centre (CRC).
